Bio

I began my career in building automation in the mid-90s with my father’s company, Automated Temperature Controls, in Reno. I started by sweeping the warehouse floors, then graduated to pulling wire on job sites and building control panels, before learning to program HVAC systems. I have a Mechanical Engineering degree and an Electrical Engineering degree from UNR, as well as a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. I did a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Oxford, where I worked on laser-scanning microscopes and nanometer resolution measurements, before returning to HVAC controls. I’m a licensed Control Systems PE and have spent 20+ years in this industry, including as the owner/operator of ATC, until we sold the company to EMCOR in 2021. Since that time, I’ve worked as the General Manager for EMCOR, overseeing mechanical construction, retrofit, and service, in addition to building automation. In 2024 I was promoted to the Vice President over all automation operations throughout CA, AZ, and NV. I serve on multiple advisory boards in the industry and have given talks at many industry events.
