“ASHRAE 62.1 and ASHRAE 170 Applicability for Medical Spaces”

Bio

Dave Mason serves on the technical committee for ASHRAE Standard 170 Ventilation of Health Care Facilities where he has provided valuable input on the standard and help in clarification for its use. Since the inception of ASHRAE 170 in 2008, the technical committee has been working on clarifications to this standard to help designers calculate the total minimum air required for healthcare facilities. This was a problem for designers and AHJs because these facilities have spaces listed both in ASHRAE 62.1 (non-medical) and ASHRAE 170 (medical). Finally, over the past two years, the ASHRAE 170 technical committee worked on clearing this up in ASHRAE 170 and have modified the language in 170 to properly define how designers should determine the minimum outdoor air provided by air handlers that serve both types of spaces.
